LAC Thorvald Nørhede

(1904 - 1986)

Thorvald Nørhede is born on 20 April 1925 in Vorbasse, Denmark. [1]

On 1 August 1939 he is signed on M/S AFRICAN REEFER of the J. Lauritzen Line in Esbjerg, Denmark. The ship arrives in New York from Funchal, Madeira Island, on 24 August 1941. The ship is taken over by the U.S. Maritime Commission the very same year. [2]

On 11 April 1942 he is signed on the Norwegian M/S TERCERO bound for Buenes Aires, Argentina from New York. The ship returns and he is signed off in New York on 3 July 1942. [3]

He arrives in Melbourne per THORDIS on 16 March 1943, but the archives show that he has multiple arrivals into Australia. [4]

He enlists for the Royal Australian Air Force on 19 January 1944 in Melbourne. He is then living in Middle Park. He is discharged on 1 March 1946 at which point he is attached to No. 1 Transport and Movement Office holding the rank of Leading Aircraftman. [5]
