Target: Bottrup

Nil cloud, visibility good. Target identified visually and by Gee. Bombed at 1649.3 hours from 16800 feet, heading 100T, TAS 206 mph, wind setting 170/22, on centre of smoke and fires. Target identified visually by canals and Autobahn and N.S. railway. T.I.'s not seen. T/A covered with smoke and flames. H/F barrage folm at Mathias-Stinnes (Bottrop), 1650 hrs., 16800 feet, D.N.A. Left area at point 'J' and headed west and after crossing Rhine steered to closest aerodrome at Brussells B56. A/C straight and level for camera run. Tactics satisfactory and gaggle was good, left early from English coast. A/C struck at 1650 hrs. by heavy flak over the target. Within 2 minutes port inner and starboard inner were U/S and starboard fuselage on panel near W/Op. was on fire. Lost height immidiately so flew round Rhur area and headed for Rhine and then to the nearest aerodrome. Landed safely.
