When returning from Rome at 12 and 8,000 feet, 12 approx. FW.190's and 4 ME.109's were met going North. Our aircraft turned and dived after them. W/O Bunting probably destroyed 1 FQ.190, F/S Barker damaged another, Capt. Taylor, W/O Downer, F/S MacLeod and F/S Bridger landed at Nettuno. W/O Bunting's a/c was severely damaged by light flak but he managed to return to base. He was wounded in the thigh and sent to hospital. Capt. Taylor crash-landed (write of) he was O.K. F/S Downer claims 2 FW.190's destroyed, F/S MacLeod 1 FW.190 destroyed and 2 damaged. All this 20 miles N.E. of Lake Bracciano.
