Details

Raid carried out from Graveley against Battle Area, Aiming Point ‘E’

18x500 MC.N.44. 08.15.48 hours. 19500 feet. 176 T. 170 knots. Cloud base varying 1500 to 2000 feet, with good visibility below. Target identified by red target indicator and Master Bomber’s instructions. Master Bomber first heard speaking to Deputy Master Bomber at 07.55 hours. Just after 08.00 hours, he gave “Basement” 3000 feet. At 08.15 hour, just as we ran up to bomb reds, Master Bomber told Main Force to come down to 2000 feet and bomb the reds. Judging by the smoke the concentration of bombing round the target indicators was very good. Some interference to Master Bomber’s by someone calling “A” Apple, “B” Beer, “C” Charlie etc., in rapid succession.
