Danish WW2 Pilots

Sgt Paul Aaberg

(1923 - 1952)

Sgt Paul Aaberg was one of the Danish volunteers in the RAF during the Second World War. However, little is recorded about his service at this point.

Paul Aaberg was born on 24 October 1923 in Copenhagen, son of electro mechanic Henry August Aaberg and Nanna Jónbjorg Jönsson.[1]

Aaberg volunteered for the Royal Air Force at the British consulate in Londin in the spring of 1943 (1894032).[2] On 12 April 1943, Captain Iversen of the Recruiting Office, Danish Nationals writes to Sqn Ldr P. N. Shone in the Air Ministry that

This served to introduce Danish national, Paul ABERG, who has come from Iceland in order to join the R.A.F. and who by a mistake came here to London for his enlistment.[3]

The information on Aaberg’s service is scarce. In May 1944, he was assigned to RAF Bridlington as an Aircraftman 2nd Class. This station was used for initial recruit training. Nearly a year later, he had been promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to RAF Castle Kennedy. [4] He served as an aircraft mechanic.
