Erik Schlegel

(1917 - 1977)

Erik Schlegel is born on 16 December 1917 in Kolding, Denmark. He is the son of manufacturer Evald Schlegel and Anne Marie Schlegel (née Olsen). In 1935 the family changes the name to Schlæger. [1]

On 19 March 1940 Erik Schlegel arrives in New York from Gothenburg on-board SS DROTTNINGHOLM. He is thus in United States at the time of the German occupation of Denmark. [2]

On 17 March 1942 he enlists in the US Army. He becomes US Citizen later in 1942. [3]

He serves in the U.S. Army Air Force. [4]
