Erhard count Kragh-Juel-Vind-Frijs

(1912 - 1940)

Erhard Frijs is one of the pilots who volunteer for the Finnish Air Force in the Winter War. He is killed in February 1940.

Erhard count Kragh-Juel-Vind-Frijs is born on 17 April 1912 at the family estate Juellinge. He is son of Frederik count (1882-1926) and Lady Helle Vibeke Kragh-Juel-Vind-Frijs (1886-1974). [1]

He joins the Army in the early 1930's. On 20 September 1934, he is appointed Sekondløjtnant (2nd Lieutenant) and he is appointed Løjtnant af Reserven (Lieutenant of the reserve) on 1 February 1939. He is trained as pilot and gets his wings in 1937 (pilot's certificate 204/37). [2]

Volunteers for the Finish Air Force

When Finland entered the Winter War in November 1939, Erhard Frijs volonters for the Finnish Air Force. On 19 February 1940, he is shot down and killed in his Fokker D. XXI ('FR-80') at the town Neinjoki. He is credited 1 1/2 aerial victories before his death. [3]
