Ramrod 1500. 12 Spitfire IX LF with 90 gallon tanks took off from base at 11.10 hours and landed Maldeghem [Belgium] 11.40 hours. Took off from Maldeghem later to escort 75 Lancasters bombing Dortmund (DERNE) Coking plant. 1 Spitfire abortive (technical) remainder escorted as planned. Bombing unobserved owing to cloud 10/10ths tops 20,000 ft. and lower larger tops 4000 ft. clear between. Slight heavy accurate flak from target area. |
