Circus 215. Major Birksted lead the wing. 332 Squadron were with us and 121 Squadron were picked up at Orfordness together with 9 Defiants. Course was set to the Belgian coast. They climbed to 21.000 feet seeking landfall by Ostend where they turned right and followed along the coast to Dunkerque, but did not go inland. Here they turned right and crossed the Channel, made one large left hand orbit, and then set course for base. All landed safely 1740 hrs. E/A reported all round them. Heavy an accurate flak over Nieuport. Major Birksted's R/T went u/s so Capt. Berg took over. |
