D.591. Armed recce Emden-Wesermunde-Oldenburg. 27 sorties were flown by 331 Sqdr. on this operation commencing 08.25 hrs. in the morning and carried out continuously till 19.00 hrs. when the last section landed. Flying in pairs they covered the area almost as far as Hamburg including the islands along the North coast. A good bag was obtained in this area and one victim to fall for the guns of 331 Sqdr. was a patrol bowser which went up in flames, proof that some more of the Huns transport will be immobilised for lack of this highly valuable spirit. The result of the days work is as follows:- 5 Met destroyed and 2 damaged. 1 Trailer destroyed and 3 damaged. 3 staff cars destroyed and 1 damaged. 1 petrol bowser flamer. 6 H.D.T. destroyed. Opposition from the enemy was intense in some places, but none of our a/c was hit. Weather was good at first but detoriorated during the day and put a stop to further activity by 19.00 hrs. when 10/10 cloud and rainshowers were reported in the area.
