Ramrod 878. In the afternoon Ramrod 878. The Wing was led by Major Christie. They took off from base at 1550 hours to act as Close Escort to 24 Michels, detailed to bomb Douai marshalling yards. They crossed out over South Foreland and rendez-vous'd with the bombers 15 miles N. of Douai […] at 10,000 ft. at 1630 hours. The Belgian coast was crossed at […] in a semi-circle in order to avoid flak from Lille. They approached target from N/W. The bombing appeared to be very good and heavy smoke covered the target when they left. No e/a tried to intercept. They returned via the same route and landed safely at 1800 hours.
