Cpl Marie Helene Margrethe Jepsen (m. Rasmussen)

(1916 - 2004)

Margrethe Jepsen was one of the Danish women, who served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War.

Marie Helene Margrethe Jepsen was born on 19 August 1916 in Flensburg, Germany, the daughter of Jep Boisen Jepsen and Margarethe Jepsen (née Hansen).[1] Jepsen’s father had a business deling in music, J.B. Jepsen & Sohn.[2]

Jepsen moved to England at some point. In September 1939, at the outbreak of war, she worked as a housemaid at Prathay How in Lakes, Cumbria.[3]

Wagner volunteered for the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War in early 1942 (2047937).[4] In December 1942 she is attached to RAF Fern-Acre, Eccles near Manchester.[5] There is no further information on her service at this point, but at the end of the war she held the rank of Corporal.[6]

Jepsen returned to Denmark after the war, and in 1947 she married and became Mrs. Rasmussen.[7]
