Danish WW2 Pilots

Profiles

The nucleus of this site is the individual profiles of each person I have been able to find that was in air force service during the war. The profiles can be accessed though the alphabetical index.

Jørgen Tage Bruun

Fg Off. Bruun was in London in 1940 to buy goods for Magasin du Nord, a Copenhagen department store. He was exiled by the German occupation of Denmark, and volunteered for the RAF in 1942. He served in the Far East and returned Denmark in 1945.

Bernhard Gabriel Bense

Bernhardt Gabriel Bense was one of the more than 30,000 Danish-Americans who were mobilized during the Second World War. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in December 1942, but there is very little information in his service.

Jan Oksby Egeberg

Cpl Jan Oksby Egeberg served in the Norwegian Air Force, but was later transferred to the Norwegian Navy. Before arriving in Canada in 1941, he served in the Shanghai Municipal Police from 1938 to 1941.

Jens Aage Nielsen

Jens Aage Nielsen’s path into allied service is fascinating. Unemployed he moved from Denmark to Germany to work in 1938. In March 1941, he worked onboard the factory ship, MS Hamburg when a British led commando force raided Lofoten. His ship was sunk, and Nielsen returned to Scapa Flow with the commandos. Following interrogation in London by MI5, he volunteered for the Norwegian air force.
